GROUP TRAINING WORKSHOPS
ELCA provides many workshop-style trainings that are used for our own staff training, and offers these workshops to the public as well. These trainings are hosted by ELCA periodically on an as-needed basis for individuals interested in these trainings. ELCA is excited to share its knowledge and experience with the community in this manner and we hope to continue to expand this in the future. If interested, please email us to request information.
ELCA also offers group training workshops to organizations (such as schools, summer camps, parent support organizations, or any other entity) wishing to provide training to their staff or members of the organization. These workshops are an exciting opportunity for either small or large groups.

INDIVIDUALIZED TRAINING WORKSHOPS
ELCA’s philosophy holds that each child’s needs are as unique as they are, and that the same holds true for our trainees! We understand that each organization or individual we train has specific needs that may or may not be met by our pre-existing workshops. Therefore, in addition to the established workshops listed, ELCA also welcomes the opportunity to abbreviate or elaborate on any of the workshops or topics within the workshops listed above. Additionally, we will even happily develop or otherwise individualize training topics to the specific needs of the organization. ELCA has created individualized trainings based on creating and implementing visuals, utilizing reward systems, theory of mind, and many more. Interested? Just follow these simple steps!
- Email our office manager with your contact information and the training you would like to receive.
- A consultant will contact you to acquire the details about the training topics, time allotment, number of participants, etc.
- A consultant will develop an individualized training workshop specifically suited to the needs of your staff or organization!
PARENT/SIBLINGS/FAMILY TRAINING
We encourage parents to seek as much training as possible. In addition to workshops, we are also available for 1:1 parent training and consultation. Parents can take this opportunity to ask questions, seek advice, or even have a behavior support plan developed for themselves to follow. Parents can also request direct training with their child in a similar fashion to Pivotal Response Training.
We offer a 2-part training that is individualized for the needs of the trainees and the needs of the child. The first part of the training involves a training workshop during which the teaching procedures and principles of behavior modification are addressed. This workshop includes a description of autism, reinforcement and motivation, follow through and consistency, shaping, chaining, task analysis, and the use of visuals. ELCA has a long history of training parents and other caregivers, but has also individualize this training for older siblings as well. It can be very helpful for siblings to understand the disability and develop behavioral strategies of their own. This has the potential of improving the relationship between siblings, and even improve the quality of life for everyone in the household.
The second part of the training is an active training phase, and has the potential to become an ongoing training process if appropriate. It includes identifying and prioritizing current behaviors/areas of need, functional assessment (including a behavior support plan and instructions/demonstrations on how to follow it), generalization, community outings, building the child’s independence, increasing successful interactions with the child, etc. It might also be determined that siblings and other families be included in this training or separately trained depending upon their role in the family, age, etc.
COMMUNITY TRAININGS
ELCA offers trainings that are specified to meet the needs of private schools, after school groups and clubs, sports centers and gyms, summer camp programs, and any other community based organization. These trainings are developed with the community organization and focus specifically on the areas of interest and need for each individual organization. Specific tools and strategies are developed during the training for the staff to use immediately.
SCHOOL STAFF TRAINING
ELCA has provided school districts and other organizations with training workshops for their staff. Our Autism Paraprofessional training is popular with school districts wishing to provide an extra level of support for their 1:1 aides serving children with autism. We also provide staff training for teachers, speech therapists, and school psychologists interested in learning more about classroom management (how do I explain things to my students with ASD and how to run a classroom that makes sense to them?) and recess support.
SOCIAL SKILLS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
ELCA also offers a Social Skills Team Mentorship program for districts who wish to develop social skills teams of their own. Teams are comprised of current district staff, most often teachers, school psychologists, speech therapists, and aides. ELCA staff work with each school district to set up the programs which are initially run by our staff. During this time district staff observe, receive group and individual training, and have access to consultation. Additionally, they have direct access to ELCA’s social skills, problem solving and self regulation curriculum which, in turn, develops consistent skills and a wide variety of programming across district personnel. In the second phase of the mentorship program, district teams then implement the programs under the supervision of an ELCA consultant to ensure consistency and competence of all team members. ELCA is then available for on-going consultation on an as-needed basis.
