Q: In what geographic areas do you work?
A: Most of our work encompasses the San Jose Bay Area. We travel as far south as Morgan Hill, as far east as Evergreen and as far north as Palo Alto.
Q: What ages do you serve?
A: We serve children ages 2-15.
Q: Do you contract to school districts?
A: Yes. We believe it is crucial to have the educational team at school directly involved whenever possible.
Q: Do you work with insurance?
A: Yes. We work with insurance companies who require a BCBA. We are currently looking for a licensed professional (SLP, OT, LMFT, or LSW) to bring on board in order to be accepted by all insurance companies.
Q: Do you contract with any regional centers?
A: Yes. We are vendorized to provide Adaptive Skills Training programs through the San Andreas Regional Center.
Q: Do you work with non-verbal children?
A: Yes. We develop functional communication systems for each child we serve. These systems are designed in collaboration with the family and are for use throughout the day.
Q: Do you work with high functioning children?
A: Yes. ELCA specializes in the areas of problem solving, flexibility, self-regulation, theory of mind (perspective taking), and social skills.
Q: How many hours should my child have in therapy?
A: Each child’s program is individualized to suit his or her needs. Other factors including age, developmental level, and other services the child may be receiving will be taken into account when an evaluation is conducted by an ELCA consultant.
Q: Do you provide trainings and workshops?
A: Yes. Training Workshops are provided for ABA therapists, parents, private and district school personnel, preschool directors and teachers, autism paraprofessionals, one on one aides, community programs (such as the YMCA), etc. on such topics as:
- Autism and Behavioral Strategies
- Basic ABA Principles (including Discrete Trial Training)
- Beyond Discrete Trial Training
- Recess and Social Skills
- Facilitated Play Training
- Data Collection and Analysis
- Functional Analysis
- Generalization
Q: Do you run any groups or classes?
A: Yes. We run a wide variety of social skills groups at our clinic, which generally run once a week for 2 hours. We also run social skills programs in schools for multiple school districts on their campuses.
Q: What is the Social Skills Mentorship Program?
A: We developed a Social Skills Mentorship Program that focuses on building capacity for school district staff. The program has multiple steps which include the following
- A 6-hour workshop for as many district staff as the district would like to invite
- A weekly 45-60 minute whole-class social skills/problem solving lesson
- The opportunity for school staff to observe ELCA staff leading a group, which is then followed up with the ELCA staff observing the district staff and giving feedback and coaching
- Ongoing support by an ELCA consultant
