HISTORY OF ELCA

ELCA, Inc. was founded in the year 2000 by Elizabeth Bart (Cutforth), Jennifer Herbert (Peckham) and Juanita Traver. They were long-time friends and colleagues who began actively sharing information and ideas with each other. As they collaborated, they found they shared similar philosophies.

In 2000, they began to officially develop the individualized ELCA curriculum. At that time, they also began providing programs under the ELCA name. ELCA became incorporated in August 2002. ELCA, Inc. received its NPA (non-public agency) status through the state of CA in April of 2003. At that time the staff of consultants, supervisors and behavioral therapists that had already been working under the ELCA name were officially hired as employees. ELCA immediately began contracting with school districts, providing direct ABA services for their students, providing training for their staff, and collaborating with them. ELCA also contracts with private families, insurance companies, and other organizations. Over time, ELCA also developed more and more social skills groups, constantly seeking to perfect its social curriculum. ELCA is honored to have been invited to join the Better Business Bureau in 2008. ELCA was awarded with a certificate of recognition for our work at the Special Education Recognition Awards (SERA) in 2009 and 2010.

Throughout its history, ELCA has strived to continuously develop novel curriculum and programming, utilizing current literature in combination with the knowledge and creativity of its staff to optimize the learning environment for its clients.
